About

Jason Kuznicki on Mar 23rd 2007

We are a group of libertarian/classical liberal thinkers active in law, public policy, and academics. Although we favor negative liberty, in Isaiah Berlin’s sense, the blog takes its name from the active, engaged, public service function that we hope it performs. Insofar as “positive liberty” is a call for participation in public life, this site is a part of our answer.

Comments are moderated as follows:

1. We welcome and encourage comments, even if we disagree with you. We will not, however, tolerate comments that are simply vindictive, ad hominem, or otherwise contrary to the spirit of honest civil discourse. Such comments will typically not be allowed to appear even if we are otherwise sympathetic to the ideas they advocate.

2. All first-time commenters must pass an automated spam filter and human moderation. We get several hundred to several thousand spams per day, so the multiple layers are sadly necessary. Comment approval may be done by any of the authors, and it usually happens within several minutes to several hours of submission.

3. Once you have had a comment approved, your subsequent comments will usually bypass all moderation and appear immediately. Welcome to the community.

4. Comments by approved commenters that contain strong profanity or certain spammy keywords may be diverted to the human moderators for review. Strong profanity is not necessarily forbidden, but please use sound judgment.

5. Our own judgment isn’t perfect, and sometimes we make errors of inclusion. We reserve the right to delete the comments of approved commenters even after they appear on the site. This will only be done to preserve an atmosphere of polite discourse, and in the rarest of circumstances.

I was a “born and raised” Republican. I became a Goldwater Republican in 1964 and Reagan fan soon after. I read ALL Barry’s books and still believe in much of what he said. I also read Ayn Rand’s books early on in my reborn political thoughts and ideas. Love John Galt.

However, of late I am having a hard time seeing John McCain in The White House (never mind those other two). I have good friend who is a libertarian and more and more lately I have been thinking of either voting Libertarian, or ‘none of the above’. Or maybe for Micky Mouse, as a protest against all the Micky Mouse activity in this country. 250 years ago I would have stood with those good Liberals who gave birth to this country. Today I am not sure who I stand with.

I am a seeker after knowledge and answers, have been all of my 64 years. Politically I am lost and confused. Is there no one out there to stand up and defend what those True Liberals fought and suffered and died for in 1770’s?
